It's all about me. Big surprise, it's my journal.

Tue Aug 18, 2009, 9:07 PM
Where to begin...? I went to the Yukon for a week with David. Total number of grizzlies sighted: 5, four in the Yukon, one in Alaska. I went fishing for the first time. Almost caught a beautiful two foot sockeye salmon. I kid you not. David's father forgot the net and he got away. Same thing happened to David's little sister. Saw a grizzly up close, about fifteen feet away. Saw the same one the next day as well, this time less than fifteen feet away. (From above, we were on a bridge and he passed under us.) Same place. Apparently the bear walks around the campground and surrounding forest. Saw Skagway, it's a tourist town, but riding the train was fun. Unfortunately there was a total of 50+ forest fires around Whitehorse and a similar number in Alaska, so the views were more smoggy than scenic, at first, but once the smoke cleared up it was gorgeous in both locations. Also saw Hanes, which was where I saw the grizzly up close and almost caught the salmon (it sucks watching a delicious dinner swim away like that...) We also saw two sea lions that came up into the river for some of the fish.
Anyways, just a few more weeks until school, so I'm pretty excited. It means I'll have next to no money, soon, though, so I've been stockpiling groceries for David and I. It looks like we have enough food for the next two months or so, barring fresh fruit and veggies. (For those of you who live in Victoria and haven't heard of it, the Root Cellar has the cheapest produce you'll find just about anywhere.) I'm saddened, I won't be taking any Soc courses this year, but I've taken everything available for this semester, and possibly next... So I get to take some history courses. I'd take Spanish, but they don't offer it. They offer just about every other language, just not Spanish. Kinda sucks. Oh well, maybe I can take it elsewhere.
Other than that my summer has been... Get ready for it... Work! As much of it as I can get because school is expensive. Especially when you've finally figured out what you want to do and it means backtracking to first year. But at least I have work all school year along with being a full-time student. I think I can do it. Readings are minimal and I can finish a term paper inside of a night. And then watch it get eaten by my computer as I look on in complete and utter sickening horror. Terrible feeling watching 30% of your grade get sucked into cybernetic oblivion... But hey, it's great having a merciful prof. Anywho, that's all for now folks. I'm still alive. I'm writing, but don't have a great deal of time to devote to it. But when I do I'll get right on it. Probably during my spare time at school, if I have any...
